Education

Mr. Tighe is a graduate of Harvard College (AB 1957) and Harvard Law School (J.D. 1960). He has been in the continuous private practice of law since admission to practice in 1960. Mr. Tighe was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in 1992

Work Experience

Mr. Tighe has had much experience in trying civil cases in courts of original jurisdiction in both North Carolina and Connecticut. He has had extensive appellate court experience both in the preparation of briefs and in oral argument. He is admitted to practice also in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut; U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina; U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals; U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Tighe has wide experience in the fields of corporate and business law and the organization and government of stock and non-stock (non-profit) corporations, partnerships and other business entitles. He has effected registration of securities under the Securities Act of 1933 and represented corporations in the filing and reporting requirements of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934. He has represented individuals and firms in the process of registration under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. He has acted as counsel to large and small manufacturing and service businesses including publishing houses, auto dealers, restaurants, gas and oil distributorships, retail stores, marinas and boatyards.

Mr. Tighe has represented both employer and employees in connection with claims for retaliatory and other charges of wrongful discharge, claims for unemployment benefits, wage and hour disputes and other employment controversies.

Mr. Tighe has much experience in counseling concerning, and litigating, claims of race, gender, disability, age and other forms of unlawful discrimination in employment, public accommodation, and governmental services.

Mr. Tighe has had extensive experience in the field of municipal law, especially in the drafting and administration and enforcement of land use laws and regulations.

Mr. Tighe has represented clients before various state regulatory agencies including state and environmental agencies, public utilities commissions, state personnel commissions, office of administrative hearings and employment security commissions.

Mr. Tighe has had experience in personal, family and elder law counseling and in the planning of estates. He has extensive experience in preparing wills, trust instruments, and other advance directives.

Mr. Tighe has had experience in counseling individuals, business entities and fiduciaries in connection with federal and state Income tax matters. He has represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Tax Court upon revenue audits including fraud audits.
